About the MMX Rover

Developed by JAXA, CNES, and DLR as part of the Mars Moons sample return mission, it is equipped with a near-infrared spectrometer to study Phobos’ mineral composition while collecting samples for a first-ever return mission. 

 

The Mars Moons Exploration mission is an innovative collaboration that involves JAXA, ESA, CNES, DLR, and NASA  this mission aims to sustainably explore the moons of mars and carry out the first ever sample return mission to earth. Idefix is a French-German rover that will be part of this mission and will be deployed for a 10 day mission and wll sample the soil of Phobos up to 2 cm with 12 instruments onboard the spacecraft according to CNES. This international mission represents the kind of collaboration that can effectively break the boundaries of deep space exploration.
